happy b-day

Austin is 1 month old today! I am loving being a dad. Hard to believe that i could love someone this much =) I am loving everything.. every day is something new. We get excited when he makes a new face or poops different or eat more or less at night or when he has a new cry or new clothes fit him. Never a dull moment. Even things like him crying or getting fussy or the lack of sleep do not seem so bad. Thanks for the first month of fun Austin!

My Play Pen

Today I wanted to hang out in my play pen. I was looking at my bear mobile. I really like those bears and I was watching them as Mom made them spin around. Mom was taking lots of pictures of me playing. Then I called Dad on the phone to let him know what I was doing, but he didn't answer so I just left him a message...

My Aquarium Gym

Today I played in my Baby Einstein aquarium gym. It is really cool. At first, I just looked at everything. Then I started kicking and hitting the little sea animals with my feet and hands. I called Dad at work using the webcam so he could see me play. I got tired quickly so mom had to calm me down and put me down for a nap. I will try to play in the gym tomorrow. Hopefully, Dad will post some pictures of me playing in my gym.

I am two weeks old!

Hi everyone! Today I am two weeks old. I went to the doctor for a check-up. I am doing well; I have gained some weight since coming home from the hospital. I am now 6 lbs and 13 oz. I also got a shot today. I did well and didn't cry too much.

Dad had to go to work today. I miss him, but he will play with me when he comes home this evening. Mom and I are doing well on our first day alone. I think I need a nap!

My First Outing

Today Mom and Dad took me out for my first shopping trip. We went to Carter's and Target. I got some new blankets at Carters and some more pacifiers at Target. I was a good boy and only fussed a little bit.

First Bath

Austin was getting a little grimey, so we finally broke down and gave him his first bath since leaving the hospital. He did pretty good, just got made at me when we put water on his head.

Pictures are here

Austin's first night flying solo

When we were in the hospital, Austin mostly slept in his portable-hospital-crib-on-wheels-thingie in our room. This was exhausting. If he made a noise, I checked on him. If he didn't make a noise, i figured something was wrong with him, so i checked on him.

Since coming home, he has either slept in our bed or when he did sleep in his crib, someone was in his room with him (Austin says: "thanks Nani/Nana!").

Last night, we decided that it was time for him to sleep alone. So we put him in his crib and setup the monitor. I went back to my habits from the hospital for the first couple of hours - checking on him way too often. Finally, either exhaustion set in, or i realized that baby's can breathe on their own, and let him go. He did great, the only times he woke were for his feedings on he needed a diaper change. I feel so refreshed! I think i actually slept 3 hours in a row last night!

So proud of my boy!

football!

This weekend, Grandma, Grandpa, and Denise came over to visit. Grandpa had lots of funny looking at me and teaching me about webcams and Harley's. Denise helped me by washing my clothes and holding me and keeping me warm. Grandma made sure that Mom was relaxed. I got to watch my first football games. Dad taught me the words to "Rocky Top" and 3:30 and "The Eyes of Texas" at 7:00. Dad posted some pictures from this weekend here

I have a web cam

good poop!

Little Austin has slight jaundice. In order to get it out, he has got to get in some good poops. I never knew that I could be so happy to see yellow poop! Hopefully now he starts to get some of that bilirubin out of his blood.

Home Sweet Home

I sure like it here at home. I have an awesome room with lots of animals. My chair is great - it vibrates and keeps me nice and warm. My favorite thing to do is sleep all day and sing at night. Funny that everyone tells me to "ssssshhhhh" when i sing

hellooooooo Austin

The little guy is here!

All weekend long I kept saying that she was getting close. Finally, Sunday night, the fun began about 9pm with contractions. We were at the hospital by 11pm (i think i actually sped trying to get to the hospital quickly enough). The little guy popped out at 3:43 am on the morning of Monday, October 30. When i saw the little guy, i was filled with an emotion that i have never felt before.. guess that is the feeling of being a proud father!

First night in the hospital was confusing. I was so scared, thinking.. "they are going to let me take care of a baby? what do i do with him..." By the end of the first day, I had so confidence that "hey, i can do this!"

We came home from the hospital Wednesday afternoon. Coming home was another confusing time. No nurse there to help you out when you need it.. the training wheels were starting to come off.

So baby boot camp has begun. Although i am exhausted, we were lucky in that the Kothari's have help out so much, including watching him throughout the night, letting us sleep in between feedings.

The little guy is so cute. I am not sold on who he favors just yet, although when he cries i think he looks like me. He has black hair (Shimul's genes) with a widows peek (my genes). He has long skinny toes and fingers (Shimul's genes), and very strong stomach and arms and legs (not our genes!). And best of all, he farts all the time (my genes!).

I am loving this. Even when he cries or poos or pees on me.. he is my boy! This is my boy!

I am so proud of Shimul. I do not see how a woman can physically have a child. The whole carrying a child and all the sacrifices that you must make then to the labor pains to the post delivery recovery.. so much. I owe you one.

Time for Austin's lunch, so laters (i will post up pictures soon, i promise!)
